Who we are
Hi, my name is Abby! I live in the Cincinnati area with my husband and our one year old daughter. I’m a fiber artist that specializes in hand knit children’s accessories. I've been crocheting since I was eight years old, and learned how to knit soon after. I have a passion for natural fibers and love making baby accessories, crafting them as gifts for friends and for my own daughter.
A LITTLE ABOUT OUR NAME
Morchella is the scientific name of the morel mushroom, a favorite of local foragers. Morchella knits was founded from our previous etsy store, Olivia Lane Handmade. We wanted to rebrand to emphasize our focus on natural materials and wholistic arts. We currently want to provide parents with natural handmade goods for their children and themselves at more affordable prices.
OUR ETHOS
We are driven by the belief that we need to recover a grounded relationship with our resources. This can be accomplished through a firm understanding of where things come from. Modern petro-fibers or plastics are too far abstracted from their source, which we believe can cause unharmonious understandings that form our core self. Even natural fibers subjected to industrial processes can instill false perceptions about reality. Natural fibers exist on the market but are difficult to find for an affordable price. We hope to make handmade, natural fiber items more affordable and accessible to families. Our dream is to one day source our fibers locally, but until then we import them mainly from Denmark. Everything we offer is made from Wool, cotton, and occasionally other natural fibers, all of which are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified.
